Longbank Non-Grain Oriented Electrical Steel Advantages

Longbank non-grain oriented electrical steels have high permeability which makes them have higher magnetic induction than the regular non-grain oriented electrical steels. They have excellent homogeneous magnetic properties in all directions. Also, they have improved capacity to support magnetic fields.

The non-grain oriented electrical steels have low magnetostriction or a low tendency to shrink or expand in magnetic fields.

Longbank non-grain oriented electrical steels have reduced core loss through lowering the eddy or electric current component. As a result, the electrical resistance of non-grain oriented electrical steel will increase.

The non-grain oriented electrical steels have decreased hysteresis loss which indicates that less energy is wasted in the form of heat from alternating magnetizing force.
Longbank Non-Grain Oriented Electrical Steel Insulation Coatings
The non-grain oriented electrical steels are applied with an insulation coating on their surface to protect them from outdoor environments, lower the electrical current loss, enhance feeding ability and punchability, improve resistance to weathering, scratches, corrosion, etc. There are 2 types of insulation coating solutions, organic and inorganic. Below are some of the insulation coating we offer.
- C-0 coating

Longbank Non-Grain Oriented Electrical Steel Types
The non-grain oriented electrical steel is manufactured in 2 types such as:
Fully-processed Non-Grain Oriented Electrical Steel – The fully-processed non-grain oriented electrical steels have magnetic properties that are fully developed through the mill. To achieve the ideal magnetic performance and properties of fully processed non-grain oriented electrical steels, they require SRA or Stress Relief Anneal. The fully-processed non-grain oriented electrical steels are ideal for magnetic circuits in electrical system housing, transformers, and motors.
Semi-Processed Non-Grain Oriented Electrical Steel – The semi-processed non-grain oriented electrical steel needs a final heat treatment. The heat treatment is also known as QDA or Quality Development Anneal. After the final cold rolling process, they are annealed at low temperatures. The semi-processed non-grain oriented electrical steel does not usually need organic coatings. They also have better punchability than the fully-processed type. Moreover, they are perfect to use for small power transformers, stators, small rotors, etc.
Longbank Non-Grain Oriented Electrical Steel Production
When manufacturing non-grain oriented electrical steel, Longbank uses advanced technologies, equipment, and cutting-edge facilities to ensure quality and meet customers’ expectations. Every process of producing is automatically controlled. Some of the processes include:
Hot rolling – The electrical steels are continuously cast or molten in the oxygen furnaces. Then, they are hot rolled and pass through the process line of annealing.
Preliminary Annealing – In the preliminary annealing, there is a hydrochloric acid cleaning and scale breaker that removes the scales and dirt on the surface of the steel.
Cold Rolling – In this process, the steel’s thickness is reduced and adjusted based on the customers’ specifications. The cold rolling process is also done to get the exact magnetic properties.
Annealing & Insulation Coating – In this process, the carbon content of the steel will be reduced by the decarburizing anneal. Then, the non-grain oriented electrical steel is recrystallized through heat treatment. Contaminants such as sulfur will also be removed in the annealing process. Then, there are different types of insulation coating that will be applied depending on the customers’ requirements and applications.

Yes, when the non-grain oriented electrical steel is processed, there will be some negative effect on their core loss.
Any manufacturing processes such as shearing, stamping, or laser cutting will have some negative effects. It is because the structure of the grains at their edge will be deformed in some way.
However, this is not a big issue since the non-grain oriented electrical steel can be annealed to bring its original characteristics back.
